2023 Season —- LGBTQ+
Currently, our theatre does not own a building and is working out of First Congregational Church of Oshkosh, WI. We are not a religious entity and are not directly affiliated with FCC, but we thank them for allowing us to perform within their space and for the generous grant they awarded us in May of 2023.
Our current season has been labeled Let’s Go Be Theatre Queers (or LGBTQ+) by this season’s program director, Keegan Burnett. We are currently using this season to explore LGBTQ+ issues, starting with I Am My Own Wife (by Doug Wright), a play about a trans woman in East Berlin during the Nazi and the Stasi regimes. Our second play of the season is Beauty And The Beast, as told by Marty Duhatschek. Our rendition of Beauty comes with a twist to turn the fairytale on its head, and explore gender identity and/or sexuality, and how LGBT+ people can reclaim stories that we’ve had since our childhoods in a way that we can identify with tales as old as time.
The third and final play of the LGBTQ+ season is Perfect Arrangement, by Topher Payne. Set in 1950 at the height of the Lavender/Red Scare, is set during the infamous “Lavender Scare”. The story takes place in 1950, in an increasingly polarized United States at the outset of McCarthyism. With homosexuality considered a mental illness, gay men and lesbians were barred or removed from government employment over concerns of “deviance” and “general moral turpitude” . At the center of this upheaval, two gay men and two lesbians have found a way to avoid discovery by presenting themselves as heterosexual couples, living next door to each other. But when their employer, The U.S. State Department, asks them to target men and women just like themselves, they are forced to choose between the increasingly tenuous living arrangement required by their government and the right to live in dignity without shame or fear.

Perfect Arrangement — Final Call!
The Rebel Alliance Theater 2023 season was underwritten by a generous grant from the First Congregational Church in Oshkosh.
“If you have done nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear.” (Norma – Perfect Arrangement)
We would all like to believe this statement to be true. But, for members of the LGBTQIA+ community, it often is not. The artists of Rebel Alliance Theatre, aided by a generous grant from the First Congregational Church in Oshkosh, have devoted their 2023/2024 Season to amplifying LGBTQA+ voices and issues, shining a light on the ways in which queer people are affected by the fear and prejudice of those around them.

Rehearsal Starts (Cast Only)
We’ve had a few weeks to read through the script and start to learn our lines, now let’s get to the dramatical questions, the acting, and putting together the show!
We’re here to tell important stories, but we’re also here to have fun. Let’s get started!
Read Through (Cast only)
Read Through (Cast Only)
Hooray, you’ve been cast! Now is the time to read through the play together, talk about any questions we might have about the play, any concerns, and so forth! Please bring something to to write on/with if you’d like to take notes — pen and paper, tablet, computer, whatever works best for you.

Auditions - Beauty And The Beast
Auditions
We are looking for new performers to join our troupe! Whether you are experienced or new to the craft, have been a part of shows or have an interest in theatre production, come stop by! You don’t need to have anything prepared for the time being. We are holding open auditions in the First Congregational Church of Oshkosh, WI.
We are looking for actors for Beauty and the Beast, as written by Marty Duhatschek. Contrary to what you might be picturing, this show is nothing like Disney’s telling with the gilded mansion of the Beast and the jaunty masculinity of Gaston, but rather a retelling of the original tale. Our current season is focused on highlighting and lifting up LGBTQIA+ voices, so the tale will have a bit of a twist to it— Beast is not a prince, but rather, a princess.
Roles are flexible in terms of gender, we have 14 parts available to fill.
There are at least 2 required rehearsals per week minimum, but coming to every rehearsal is highly encouraged if possible. The current rehearsal schedule is tentatively weekdays on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 6:30pm.
Showdates:
September 22nd, 23rd, 29th, 30th

I Am My Own Wife — Last Call!
I Am My Own Wife
By Doug Wright
Based on a true story, and inspired by interviews conducted by the playwright over several years, I AM MY OWN WIFE tells the fascinating tale of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a real-life German transgender woman who managed to survive both the Nazi onslaught and the repressive East German Communist regime, all while being herself. She owned a museum about the Gründerzeit period of Germany, and so the play is an homage to history, to collections, and to stories.
Join us Saturday, June 17th, at First Congregational Church in Oshkosh, WI, for this fantastic retelling of her life and help lift up and celebrate LGBTQ+ voices and experiences from the past in this lovely pride month.
We invite you to stop by early before the show starts, as we have a museum showcase set up in the Fellowship Hall depicting history of FCC, of Rebel Alliance Theatre, of Germany, and of the LGBTQ+ community.
PLEASE NOTE: This finale of I am My Own Wife is on a sliding scale for ticket prices. Tickets will also be available at the door, but are on a first-come, first-serve basis as we only have a small amount of seats available per performance. Buying tickets ahead of time is highly encouraged.
