Auditions -- Taming of the Shrew

  • First Congregational Church 137 Algoma Boulevard Oshkosh, WI, 54901 United States (map)

It’s been a long time since we’ve had the opportunity or staffing to produce a Shakespeare show, and we hope that you’ll consider taking part in our unique take on it. We are in need of new, interested, and passionate actors and crew members as we seek to expand our team!

Rebel Alliance Theatre is a volunteer-based educational theatre program. We are a resident company and rarely hold open auditions. Our company of creatives have been working with the company for many years and are focused on the making of theatre as a social responsibility and who have the training and experience to help others learn to do that as well.

  • Yes, and no. We serve our community. We invite the community to participate. We ARE a community. BUT, though we DO have fun, and this is often a social experience, we are NOT doing this as a social outlet. We are doing this because we believe in the power of storytelling and live theatre to change the world in positive ways.

  • Auditioning for our summer Shakespeare experience does not obligate participating community creatives to the company beyond this production. At any given time, we are open to adding 2-6 new company members and may extend invitations at any point through the rehearsal process.

No one at Rebel Alliance is currently paid. For all of us, this is a labor of love and responsibility. All funds collected from fundraising and ticket sales goes into production budgets and operational costs.

  • The Taming of the Shrew has, like all of Shakespeare’s work, a flexible cast. Flexible in number, flexible in gender.

Principal parts (those that are generally played by an actor that plays no additional parts in the play) are Katherina (the “shrew”), Pertruchio (“the tamer”), Bianca (the sister), Lucentio (Bianca’s favored wooer), and Tranio (Lucentio’s servant, who pretends to be Lucentio for most of the play).

There are multiple supporting roles (generally played by actors who play up to five different roles at once), as well as non-speaking roles.

  • No. We’ll teach you “to speak Shakespeare” and we never use accents.
